Who is Reading your Blog? – Part 2
Now that you know who is or who should be reading your blog, how Do you ensure that they keep reading it? Before I go in to the details, I find it prudent to inform you that it is hard work and takes a lot of time to build an actual following. Therefore, the most important thing that you would need to keep your readers coming back to your blog before anything is: PATIENCE. The sooner you accept that, the better would be the results!
Now coming back to other worldly tricks to keep your blog readership increasing, I find it very essential to divide this in to two sections:
- Interaction-driven
- Technology-driven
This post will cover interaction-driven approach to keeping and increasing your readership. Interaction-driven approach can be defined as retaining or increasing your readership by increased interaction with them.
# Interaction-Driven:
There are many a small but effective ways that can be done but the basic starting point for any of it is Quality Content. You do not have to be an exceptional writer to do that. All that one would need is to think it over thoroughly and bring about a structure. Some of the points that might help:
- Research your topic well
- Decide on a eye-catchy heading/title for the post
- Try to break it in to concise and logical paragraphs and add pointers to make it as crisp as possible
- Revise your post thoroughly for any spelling or grammatical mistakes before publishing
- Then publish!
Once you publish your content with assured quality and unique information, it is time to interact with your readers! One of the best ways is through comments. It is often difficult to get your first Comment, but once you get it, one can build on it. One of the triggers to get your first comment is asking the reader a compelling question. Keep your content passionate enough to trigger response by your readers and lo! You get your first comment…
Now that you have a comment, build your relationship with the reader by interacting with him/her. ALWAYS reply to reader’s comments and that should not be a thank you note! Try discussing the reader’s point of view getting him/her involved in the subject. This presents a very good opportunity to find out what more does the reader want. If you would notice, lot many times your favorite blogger would start with “I got many queries last week…” or “lot of people seem to be asking me…”!! That is a result of not “lot of people” really “asking” the author, but more of the analysis the blogger put in to the reader’s comments. Interact more with them to know them more and hence, retain them!
Finally, remember that your reader also has an online interest. The very fact that he is spending his/her precious minutes on your blog means the topic and online presence means something to him/her. Take time to know your reader more. Visit the reader’s site or blog and leave thoughtful comments there. And when you do that, remember, you are not retaining a reader – you are making him loyal! I need not mention that loyalty means assured readership and also, recommendation thereby, increasing your stats!
Phew! This completes the interaction-driven approach to increasing your blog readers. Next in line is technology-driven…
Hope you found it useful. Are you excited to know more? Let me know! Happy Blogging!!

“ALWAYS reply to reader’s comments and that should not be a thank you note! Try discussing the reader’s point of view getting him/her involved in the subject.”
I Do not agree with the ALWAYS thing but I do support discussing. It increases trust and Reputation.
I reply to every Comment on my blog. That just encourages the commentator to come and comment next time… I trust that formula and am getting enough results with that.
Yes, interaction driven post takes more time then normal posts. and get more comments. It is highly depend on what you are blogging. Niche or general. General blogs don’t need interaction based post. They Do quantity work and target SE traffic.
That’s where the blogging niche needs more comments and interaction. We need to discuss more and more on blogs to get loyal readers.
Good Quality content and make relation with the reader will surely become great combination to become success blog. On business term, interaction with customer is called as relationship management and make quality contest is called as total quality control
. Because sometime make a blog is for business, so the action is already right if we analysis it with business perspective.
Nothing pisses me off like starting a conversation on someone’s blog and I’m totally ignored. I make exceptions though for some bloggers whom I know are EXTREMELY busy with other projects .
I’ve come to find that interacting with your readers increases the amount of comments on your blog and in turn you could actually learn something new from your reader or he/she could have a different and better perspective of your blog post.
True, the reader’s interaction is the most important aspect and definitely it would bring out something new to you, if not always than surely quite often. I mostly get the new ideas and inspirations from reading out others blogs like techzoomin and few others. It has always been a great learning to me.
