What Exactly Google Penalty is? How to Prevent it?

June 23rd, 2009 by Lax

Google loves people who follow their tos and always rank them high but what about the people who don’t care about them? The answer is simple; they penalize or ban them for their misbehavior towards them.

Now what is Google penalty and Ban?

Google penalty is the process of removing top ranked web pages in the search results, for certain keyword search, done in Google. This is also often known as lowering the rank of the web page for certain time period. The time period varies from 1 month to 12 months depending on the penalty. Penalized pages are not permanently removed from Google’s index but they are kept away for some period.

Google Ban is just like kiss of death. The Google ban generally removes off, all web pages permanently from Google search results or search index.  Google basically bans website or blogs that try to trick Google to attain high page rank in short period of time by getting huge number of inbound links.

So here is how you can prevent Google penalty:

dont do it!

1: Follow Google TOS very carefully. Google gives high priority for those who follow Google TOS, always make sure that you follow all their TOS to assure that you will not take a punishment for an unknown reason.

2: Don’t place porn content in your blog or website. Google dislikes blogs or websites with porn content. Having porn content may often lead to Google ban, so be careful folks.

3: Don’t use Hidden Text, in your website. There are lots of people who think hidden text would get you some benefits in a web page or a blog but Matt cutts (Famous person from Google Search Quality Team) treats this as a serious trick to improve search ranking. You will be penalized for a very long time if you are caught doing this.

4: Using duplicate content in your website is a really serious crime. One cannot Do this especially if your website or blog is new. This may often penalize your blog from 6 months to 9 months in the Google search Index, which will kill your blogging career.

5: Having heavy keyword density in an article is just surrendering your blog or website to Google. The search engine leaders treat this as a serious anti Google behavior and will punish you very seriously.

6: Don’t get too many inbound links or out bound links to your website using link exchange, or other black hat SEO strategies. Always remember “A Good Webmaster is always a good baby to Google“, Google will never punish them. So be a good webmaster to maintain a good relationship with Google.

However there are lot of tricks spammer’s employ to get a good page rank and Google is on its way to find them and crack them down. This is the only reason why Google change their algorithm on regular basis. Please don’t try any such black hat strategies to get a kiss of death from Google.

Hope you found it useful. Any experiences with Google? Share with us! Happy Blogging!!

Who said Google Do not like porn? Just Kidding but Porn has no relation with banning or penalty. It is just bad for your blog. You will lose readers (or may gain – who knows neither I nor you tried it)

Too many Inbound / Outbound link is OK for a blog. Google do not want more than 100 links on your website but for blog 100s link on a page is normal, so Google take exception in case of blogs.

There is one more thing that will get you Banned. Not using No-follow for adverts.

    • Lax says:

Google will index porn sites too..But before applying for Adsense or before submitting your URL to search engine, It will ask for porn or not right?

If you say tech and try to Do porn, then def it will caught and ban you. Right?

      • Agent 001 says:

Of course you cannot put Adsense on porn site/ any website linking to porn site/torrent sites. When I commented I was not considering Adsense.

I really didn’t meant that putting porn links is safe. I made a pun there. I wanted to tell about linking to sites with similar topics (porn in not one of them in our case).

Pretty cool post. I just came by your site and wanted to say
that I have really liked browsing your blog posts. Any way
I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you post again soon!

  • Pro-Vamsi says:

    @ Agent 001

Google doesn’t like links to porn website from a web page where people discuss some technology stuff or some thing else.

And coming to too many inbound links!!

There are people who Comment too much every day in others blogs or forums to get back link to their blog. This is some king of spam as well and I’m sure Google hates this one as well.

Yes if you don’t add No-follow for adverts you will penalized, I don’t think you will be Banned for that.

    • Lax says:

      Thanks ture…thanks dude..

    • Agent 001 says:

Its not Google who Do not like it, its users. People who would link to porn would be stupid.

The point about Google is not about liking to porn sites or not. Its about linking to websites with similar topics. Porn any way is not a relevant topic for any website except for Porn sites themselves. So please do not say if Google like it or not, rather know the real reason.

As I told before every search engine takes blogs as exceptions (when considering the links – Its a SEO Secret). The value of links may decrease but the link through comments still serves as backlinks.

You may get Banned for not using No Follow especially if you are using Adsense on you blog too.

I think I am clear enough.

  • Ricky says:

I seriously doubt that i have been penalized by google. My back links has been reduced considerably and i don’t see any incoming links also(which were there before). Is it normal?

    • Lax says:

Don’t worry its normal..The Tools which you’re looking will not show the exact count always.

They will show thousands for new blogs too..which is not possible. So no worries :)

  • If you write Adult content on your Adsense enabled Blog, then Google shows Public Service Ads on them. But if you keep on writing Adult articles then you will surely get Banned from Adsense. Just check weather your Blog contains Adult material or no: http://bit.ly/fshS5 Also, learn how Google gives Ads on your website so that you don’t get banned but increase our revenue: http://bit.ly/NMfnH [Hey Lax, I am not spamming your Blog! But these articles might help your readers get a proper insight of Adult content]

  • Charles says:

Great Tips. Actually I think the best way is still avoid Black Hat strategies altogether. Focus on providing real honest value and you won’t get the vicious Google slap, but a pat on the back.

  • Rohit says:

I think my blog is also penalized by Google because I have lost PR since last 6 months but didn’t get it back till date? Are you sure that penalization lasts for 12 months Maximum? Are PR’s given back?

BTW, I still have your link on my Blogroll but I couldn’t find anywhere “Blogsolute” in your Blogroll.

    • Lax says:

      Rohit,

Penalization can be for 12 months too…I don’t exactly about getting PR back. But hope it happens…

I’m extremely sorry about the blogroll dude…Don’t know when i removed it..usually i’ll not touch them once i give the link. Will add it now…sorry again…

  • One of the major reason for penelty is Link exchange and specially two way..
the concept of Blogroll is again something… a big no for SEO….
Though better idea would be create a 3 way link Building scheme and that too niche relevant..

  • Rahul says:

Great article ill keep all this in my mind.

  • Nihar says:

Great post. Now i know the diff between penalty and ban.

    Thanks.

  • [...] before you know that, you certainly have the need to know the difference between Google penalty and Google ban. You can find the info in one of my previous articles “What Exactly Google [...]

  • Kurt Avish says:

I dont think Google hate porns :P Infact if using ads such as Adsense then porn must not be used.

However a porn site can be fully indexed in google. Of course if a blog is about technology or sports and suddenly you start seeing porn stuffs then it will be penalised.

  • I was duplicating some content but after reading this article now i won’t be doing this.

  • Black hat SEO could make your page Banned on google search indexed.

But it’s not permanent. John Chow did the Black Hat SEO process before and got banned for more or less 2 years on his blogging career.

But since google administrator is still humans, they understand your efforts but try to fix your mistakes what you did.

Now John Chow is now alive on google search engine and starting to dominate his competition.

I was also banned or classified as spam once in my current blogger blog but when I submit a letter of reconsideration, they made a re-review on my blog and they consider my submission. (I didn’t Do such thing!)

I learn many thing about google’s TOS. Even though I didn’t read all their rules, I understand what are those rules that could make your account terminated.

In fact, my Adsense got terminated for more or less 6 months not just once but trice. After some sort of efforts and processes I came back again.

My blog and adsense account bring back to life…

  • Wow. So Google is really strict on black hat SEO. I’ll stick to organic SEO for the rest of my blogging life.

  • my friend blog was Banned/penalised by google few days back.

is there anyway that makes google to lift the ban
