The Rise and More Rise of Mobile Blogging

Bloggers everywhere love to share personal stories, anecdotes, work horrors, hobbies, opinions, business products or brand promotions. Unfortunately, few people have time every single day to sit at a PC or a laptop and write a comprehensive blog piece about their target topic. Fortunately, blogging platform designers, specifically the two biggest ones of blogger and WordPress, know that our world is a very mobile one and provide mobile phone access to our various blogs. Let’s explore some of the mobile phones blogging options that are available to us and discuss their advantages and disadvantages.

Overview

Nicknamed moblogging or microblogging, blogging while mobile, using mobile phones, is on the rise. Because of the smaller screens and keyboards, either physical or virtual, mobile blogging rarely encompasses writing lengthy, in-depth blog pieces, although if you have the time, topic and desire, it’s certainly possible. But regardless of how or about what you blog, blogging via a mobile phone is on the rise.

First, it’s not easy to compose a piece directly from a mobile phone. Most people on the go actually write fully original content on other machines and import them onto a blog later. That’s where the mobile phone technology steps into the picture.

The Big Two in blogging, Blogger.com and WordPress, both gift mobile bloggers plug-ins and apps that allow mobile phones to post or even edit blog posts. Between apps and access codes, mobile blogging is made easier than attempting to type longer posts on a minute QWERTY or virtual keyboard.

Blogger.com provides Mail to Blogger, an email access program that syncs your mobile phone or smartphone to your log-in screen and allows authorized posting directly to your blog, Blog This, which provides an introductory paragraph and a linked article that is similar to Facebook‘s link share platform, and most recently, Blogger Mobile, a smartphone program that avoids some of the complications of the other, older two options and utilizes SMS or text messages to your blog.

While the platform access features are free, your mobile carrier may charge for the use of your mobile phone data plan and/or text messages.

WordPress

Whether you use a free blog platform through WordPress.com or purchase a unique domain name through WordPress.org, mobile blogging is common on that utility as well, although admittedly, the WordPress Mobile Admin Plugin works better in the owned-domain blogs.

For free bloggers, WordPress does keep you in mind as well. WordPress.com Mobile Access is a mobile interface specifically designed for mobile phone users of a free -dotcom WordPress blog.

Either access tool takes you directly to your login screen and grants authorized access. Post a blurb or an encyclopedic entry – the choice is yours, but you no longer need to wait until you are sitting at your desk to post good content to your blog.

Go mobile and take your blog with you!
