Simple Plugin to Save you from Spam Comments!
TechZoomIn is 7 months old and Akismet has already detected 18000 spam comments, which is very strange. Akismet is very popular & good plugin to block your spam comments. But it will take the Comment and compare it with the post context and then blocks if any suspected/un related comment founds.
Here we have one more plugin which can block the spam bots directly prior to Akismet. Hope you already know this kind of plugins, but this is very simple with one math formula like 1+2=?. This can efficiently protects your blog from auto spam bots and reduces your efforts in monitoring them.
Block-Spam-By-Math:
This plugin protects registration, login and comment forms from spambots by adding a simple math question to it (“what is 4+3 ?”). This approach should give you 100% anti-spam protection to your sites.
Installation:
- Download Block-Spam-By-Match
- Upload to the /wp-content/plugins/
- Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins‘ menu in WordPress

Many others out there of this type. But this may Reduce your comments count, as no one likes to go through the diff process to Comment.

Yes of course, but if a blog getting more than 5 spams per day…then there is no other way than using this kind of plugins
Every one should use this kind of restrictions to kill the spams completely.
well plugins like Akismet are very helpful and its used by every blogger i guess. But there are some comments which still needs to be moderated manually as there are many people who Comment manually in few seconds with rubbish comments and run away as to get backlinks and also there are such commenting service providers as well for few $$
In my blog, only 2 or 3 comments per day i get but spam count is around 15 per day, but I afraid if i use plugin suggested by you, my 2-3 comments could go to zero as it requires a particular proces to Comment.
what to Do ?
I agree with your point that it may get reduced or ZERO. That’s the reason am also not using that plugin. I’ll spend time to monitor them daily

Yes most bloggers or those who leave comments doesn’t like too many process just to leave their Comment. Akismet is enough for me. It seldom goes wrong.
18,000 SPAM comments in 7 months, this is huge, Online applications like Block by Math are a great solution for such issues.
