December 13th, 2009 by Lax

Niche blogging is an act of creating a blog which is highly focused on a particular subject. Now a days bloggers prefer to write on specific subject rather than writing on different subject. Even readers like blogs which contains topics of their interest. If you are also planning to make a niche blog, take care of its Pros and Cons.

Here are few Pros and Cons of having Niche Blogs:

Pros:

#1 Huge traffic

If you have niche blog, readers who are interested in that topic will surely visit your blog regularly and your traffic will increase resulting in good ranking.

#2 Visitors will Subscribe Easily

If your topics are narrow down to a particular subject and of good Quality than visitors will surely subscribe to your blog because they will get what they want to read. The competition is less in good niche blogs, thus you have good opportunity to attract your visitors and make them subscribe to your blog. Niche blogs are easily remembered by visitors and thus they tend to visit it frequently because they only get articles which interest them.

#3 Easier to Get Sponsors

Sponsors are generally get attracted with niche blogs because they can get the traffic they want to target ,which results in good sales. If you have niche blog, you can charge more money than other blogs. An advertiser shows more interest towards niche blogs even if any niche blog might be generating less traffic.

#4 Easy to Get Success

As niche blogs can attract more visitors and more advertisers, they can even get higher rank in search engines. Once niche blog gets high rank and advertisers, earning money will become easier.

Cons:

#1 Less Number of Visitors

The biggest problem of niche blogs is that if your niche is on a very specific subject you might have a lower number of visitors.

#2 Less Number of Affiliates Available

If you are planning to monetize and your niche is too specific or different number of Affiliate program available to your disposal will be very less.

#3 Running out of Articles

Until and unless you are an expert in a niche, writing articles can itself become a bottleneck, so it is better to select a niche in which you are expertise otherwise you will run out of articles.

There are always two sides of coins and same goes with niche blogging, thus before deciding to have or not to have a niche blog is a decision which you must take after considering the points mentioned above.

Hey Lax your #1 of Pros and #1 of cons are contracting.

Also I Do not agree with the point less number of Affiliates. Thats not true at all. There are so many affiliates programs out there. You just need to do a Google search.

  • how about TZI it is Pros or Cons :)

  • Blog4Boys says:

Nice comparision. it would look much good if you have added any sites (only) under Pros category.

  • the most niche issue for me is running out the article.

  • Thats the problem for niche blogs. Most of the blogs i have seen , writes on different topic. Its very difficult for niche blogs to maintain good traffic and good post.

  • You Con’s are actually not Cons at all!

    Here is why:
    #1-Less Number of Visitors

You might have less visitors to your site, but the truth is you’ve managed to narrow your target market into a sizable and manageable amount of visitors that are extremely interested in what you have to say and/or offer.

So the only thing you give up is quantity over Quality! You now have a quality following! This means higher rate of conversions!

    #2-Less Number of Affiliates Available

I’ll have to partially agree with this. You may find yourself being offered specific (harder to get) affiliate approvals. Some partners look at the quality of your site and approve you even if the traffic levels are not met.

    #3-Running out of Articles
Again, I believe this to be only partially true.
Once you’ve got the hang of what you are informing your audience about, it then becomes a game about how to get them to convert into income/sales. You’ll find yourself tweaking articles a whooooole lot.

Remember, You can always right similar articles and post them to other websites around the web that link back to the content on your site. If you use randomness plug in for your site, Google will crawl your site and see it as new content because you’ve managed to move it around (assuming you take the time stamp away). All you need to Do at this point is write an article once a month or something but continue to feed inbound links from article submissions sites!

    Hope this helps!

  • I would like to add here that although Niche Blogging has is very specific at times people like TechCrunch have been able to sub divide their Blog into various sections after gaining popularity.

The niche technology blog now has various different sections way different from their original niche also.

So, if your Blog has high number of visitors, it can be carved out into different niches to cater to varied people

Right to the point, I wish I had more time to write more niche posts for my business blogs but the info can get a little old after a while.

This article is really helpful. Thanks for sharing! I might link your blog to mine especially after posting a related post about it. I might quote it and give you the credits! Cheers!

  • I think many people think less traffic = less money and forget the fact your conversion rate is more important than how many visitors you’re getting. You can make more money with a marketing list of 100 people that easily convert into sales than 10k visitors where only a few translate into dollars.
