Kumo: Yet an Another Search Engine From Microsoft

March 5th, 2009 by Lax

Microsoft is trying hard to beat Google in search engine market. In the process they came up with Live search engine years back, but its hard fact that the search engine failed to attract the attention. Now they are planning to hit market again with another search engine called Kumo.

Yes, Microsoft officially accepted that they are testing Kumo search engine. SE Market analysts expecting the launch of Kumo in next year or so. But most of the people saying that Microsoft will rename Live search with Kumo and re-launch it. May be we can’t deny this, as they might be implementing some changes in search techniques in live engine.

Microsoft Live Search general manager Mike Nichols wrote in an online message.

“Our hope is that our employees will give us great feedback on our new features and that it all becomes part of the external experience soon.”

Despite all the efforts Microsoft made in Live Search, managed to get only 11 per cent of the search market, whereas Google has the lion’s share of more than 60 per cent.

According to sources, the new name Kumo was already transferred from registrar to Microsoft. But as of now site Kumo.com is not accessible by outside world. It’s only accessible to Microsoft testing team, since it’s in testing phase.

So hurry and register domains related to Kumo :)   We need to wait some more time to see the live war between search engines on web.

    @Stestuff,

    True yar :) Really MS is in testing of Kumo.

  • Stestuff says:

    I can’t believe this. I think Microsoft took it as a challenge to grab at least half of the search engines share.

    Can’t wait to see Kumo :)

    Read this on techcrunch few days back and surprised. Kumo the name is not that effective as live.com

  • Agent 001 says:

    Kudos to Microsoft. If Kumo is successful most websites need not worry about Google Ban. Also we will get better Search Engines and useful features.

  • Lax says:

    @Desigar,

    Live is far better than Kumo in terms of name.

    @Agent001,

    Thats correct mate. Now Google is leading search market and afraid bloggers about ban and all.
    If kumo works well that good for us :)

    @Lax,

    I am very much delighted. I came to know about Kumo on this March 3rd and immediately I checked Kumo.Com registration details. At that time, it was not yet registered under Microsoft name. It was registered under SPOT DOMAIN LLC.

    But now it’s under Microsoft. I thinks MS bought this domain for a huge amount may be.

  • Lax says:

    @Inkapoint,

    They might have already registered all possible domains right? Like Kumo.in and all the countries :)

  • InkAPoint says:

    @Lax,
    Domain squatting is like a hobby for many companies and i think kumo may be in a different state. MS may bought that domain as they need. So a huge transaction of money may be made for kumo.com registration.

    Not sure what impact it’s going to bring! The market leader Google itself trying to remain on the top. Competitors in the form of Twitter is slowly changing people’s mindset!

  • Lax says:

    @Inkapoint,

    Thats right. Even for the related domains like KumoIndia, KumoUS and etc… will be the hot ones now.

    @Arun,

    WE can expect even more new search in this competitive world. What about Cuil search engine. I think now one is using that now.

  • InkAPoint says:

    You are right. It’s like a phobia.

  • Arafat says:

    Hum! I read it quite some time ago and I am waiting for it. Though in my opinion Microsoft start thing in web but can’t able to continue due to there lack of attention on it.

  • Lax says:

    @Inkapoint,

    Exactly :) I don’t think no one will beat Google. Its already established as a legend.

    @Arafat,

    Correct man.They will start but they won’t follow up to make it success.
