Increase RSS Count by Monitoring Inactive & Unverified Users

February 9th, 2009 by Lax

Have you observed that TechZoomIn RSS count is ZERO now? How is this possible? Of course people say its natural and known problem with Feedburner. Even I can’t find how and why it’s behaving like that, but I’m seeing ZERO from last 2 days. It really sucks when I see 0 instead of 336.

It’s nothing to Do today, but still we can improve the count by monitoring your Subscribers list at least twice in a month. Is this useful? From my experience I can say YES. It’s not only my opinion even from high profile bloggers too. Today I opened my Feedburner and found around 30 are in inactive and Unverified state. So if I succeed in recovering them, my count will move to 360+ which will be great to add 30 counts just by spending some time on monitoring.

What actually Inactive is and How to Re-activate: If Feedburner fails in delivering feeds to particular mail id 5 times successively then it will move to Inactive mode. And this will not be shown in your RSS count. To get the subscriber back you need to Re-activate the mail id by clicking Re-activate icon (Refresh icon symbol).

What actually Unverified is and How to Recover: If someone subscribed and failed to click the link in verify mail. In such situations Feedburner will show that mail id status as Unverified. This may be spam mail ids some times. Anyway we need to spend some time to recover them.

Here is the only way to recover them: Send a polite notification mail to the subscriber reminding him/her about the subscription request they made. But before to that you need to cross check the following things.

  • Check the subscribed date and mention in mail
  • Cross check the mail id format (I mean it contains spam chars or real names)

Finally, it’s worth to monitor Feedburner at least twice in a month regardless of how big is your RSS count or How busy you’re.

So, how often you do this? And how much you increased? Share with us! Happy Blogging!
