How Google is Ranking your Pages?
We all give a lot of Importance on the ranking of our web pages in Google. The higher the ranking of your pages have in Google and other search engine pages, the more amount of traffic it can drive into your site. Here, I will tell you the process that Google follow to rank Web pages in their search pages. They usually rank the pages based on two specific criteria. They are listed below in detail.
Relevance
Relevance of your content is one of the major factors in Google page rankings. The more relevant your content is to the search keywords, the higher page ranking your pages will have. Relevance can further be dependent on the following factors:
#1 Search History: Suppose somebody searches for a particular word in Google that is related to one of your article and you get your page rank somewhere in 10-15 position. Now if people click on your page’s link most of the time before other links listed, then you may find your page rank improving with time and get your link in 5-10 position soon.
#2 Geographic Location: The Google search result is also based on the geographic location and nature of your search. When you search for any word in Google, it shows the result with priority on your geographic location and language.
#3 Matching of Search Query terms and Your Content: This is one of the major factors that affect the relevance of your content. When you type your query, Google first matches the query words with your content and checks how your page is related to the search words. So when you search for “electronics engineering”, the result will not only include information on electronics engineering stream but will also include colleges teaching electronics engineering.
Importance
Apart from relevance, Importance of your content also plays a very important role in your page ranking. Google usually determines the importance of your page on the basis of PageRank. Apart from PageRank, there are certain other factors that contribute to the importance of any page. They are listed below:
#1 Quality and Not Quantity Matters: The quality of your links matters more than the quantity. If you have 2 popular/high ranking sites linking to your page, that will carry more weightage for your site compared to 10 unimportant links to your page.
#2 Buying and Selling Links will not help: Buying and selling links may seem to be a very easy way to get back links. But it is not under the guidelines of Google Webmasters. So, you may be penalized anytime for doing that.
#3 Quality Content will always help: The more quality content you have in your page, the more quality links you will get to your site. Any SEO expert will agree to that. So, build quality content and don’t worry about getting backlinks any shortcut ways.
Advices
There are certain guidelines that you can follow to improve your page rankings. Go through them.
#1 Be careful about your Outbound Links: Check the outbound links that you provide from your site. Provide the links to those pages or sites which have quality content and have exactly what a reader is looking for. This will provide them the additional information that they might be looking for and at the same time will make your site more resourceful.
#2 Try to think from Reader’s Point of View: You are writing for web users who are looking/searching for something in web. Think from their point of view and write what they would have wanted to know from your site. If you are relevant for your visitors, you’ll be for Google too.
#3 Don’t try for any Shortcuts: Don’t think of getting 1000 of visitors to your site within 1 week. Keep writing quality content first without worrying about the visitors count. It will eventually increase. Don’t use cloaking or other practices to improve your search ranking. This will never help you in the long run.

Their is huge traffic difference in two ranking positions of search engines. I had two pages indexed on second and third on google. I was getting half the traffic on third position as compared to second position.
That’s why getting top position is become people dream
I don’t know the fact that there is a huge different on traffic even the difference is only 1-2 position. But it’s logical since we know people behavior which mostly clicking only 1st or 2nd link on SERP.
Yup, i have seen it even i click on 2-3 links which comes up first in google search than i change my query most of the times.
Yeah I agree with you Rahul ,even i have seen it, my few article which are having keyword where i am in top 2 in search ranking brings me huge traffic.

Absolutely. PR is very important in my opinion, as without it, you’re unlikely to get your desired search traffic. As you say though, Quality backlinks over quantity.

I think if you update your blog more often, it gets to the top of the results list of google.
Last year i got a PR of 3, now its 2, but my traffic increased to 5 times. PR Depends upon back link, i am not interested to build it, that’s why not interested.
You’re right..PR didn’t affect much the traffic as long as you maintain and run your blog well..I learn something from you man..

Hi Een Rockstar I Do not agree what you say that traffic is easy to get. I see on my blog traffic that if I do not work for one or two days my traffic gone decrease. So for gaining continuous traffic we have to continue our work.

I also notice some blog that their post are very short and not so valuable but their PR is so high. So I think that they concentrate on link Building more that content.
Here I want to say my experience that my blog is top ten for keyword “google home affiliate program”, you may not think this keyword is not so popular, but you know I am getting most of traffic from google by searching this keyword. Here I also want to say that I only write one article on google work at home affiliate programs.

Well. The 1st point “Search History” is not 100% a true one. Google is not monitoring all search results and it implements this mechanism for selected searches only.

Yes you are right google show the same ranking for long time as SERP results are save on google history. But you may check your ranking on your other browser like IE, google crome.
As you said Quality links are very important. As PR is an logarithmic scale PR 4 links are better than 1000 PR 1 links.
To get PR3 is easy but to achive PR4 is too hard..my blog PR didn’t increase yet…maybe I should build Quality back link more

Nice post Lax. I think the most important thing you mentioned was Quality. Quantity has little bearing if the links are not good quality. Although all the points are important, without quality links, it’s difficult to reach your potential rank.

Yeah older domain can get us the higher rank but with it we need to keep on Promoting our site.
Having an old domain only helps but not will get you a page rank.
There are a lot of old domains that have low page ranks and there are also a lot of new domains that has high page ranks. So having an old domain has little advantage only. You have to follow the above advices to increase your domain’s PR.

Yes, i think its possible, i have an experience, 2 years back, we worked for a UK based web design company, all of their websites has the PR ” 2 “, and its shows the 2 PR even in the developing stage.

It’s probably SEO thing. I know a friend who actually buys domain, put some contents there, create software that will generate keywords and embed to that site (without letting normal readers read it). It’s like, they are fooling Google’s crawler. Their business is to buy domains, and sell those domains at a higher price. The only thing that can increase the price of that domain is to increase PR by posting relevant topics, lots of keywords that are invisible to readers, create backlinks and Do SEO things.
This is all business trick…I’m sure if you Do domain buying business you also will do the same..
