Getting Your Domain Name

September 9th, 2008 by Lax

After reading about Things to know before starting a blog and Starting a blog on your own naturally you have decided what domain name and what type of Hosting you need to take.

So here domain name is the important thing where you need to start with.Today i want to focus on domain name then decided to write an article titled “Getting Your Domain Name”.

Your website/Blog URL is the most visible part of your online identity. It’s what you put on your business cards,in your advertisements, and on T-shirts.It’s how people remember where you are on the web,so an easily remembered URL is as important now a days as an esaily remembered company name.

Although you can use a URL offered by free web space providers like www.techzoomin.blogspot.com, most of the people buy their own domain name to make it easy for people to find them on the web.If your online presence is www.techzoomin.com or www.myname.com, people can remember and find your site more quickly and easily.A domain name is generally a worthwhile investment, once you’re ready to get serious about your blog.

Choosing a domain name:

Domain names will be available in different kinds like .com,.net,.biz,.org and .info and etc………….. which one to pick? is the question here.Dot-com has become synonymous with online business. That’s because the .com ending of many domain names stands for commercial.

As you think about possible domain names, you might want to follow these guidelines for making a decision:

  • .com or .biz-Company or corporation
  • .org or .info-Non-profit organizations
  • .net-Network services
  • .name or .coop-Personal web site. You may also want to use a country specific domain name

You should also consider the following questions:

  • Can I pronounce the name easily?
  • Will people know how to spell it just by hearing it?
  • Can i spell the name clearly? Many letters(especially f and s) sound similar when spelled out over the phone.
  • Is the name easy to remember?
  • Does it have something to Do with the content of my blog/site I’m providing?

These days, most people realize that they’re probably not going to get their first choice in domain names.Let’s face it, most of the shorter domains are taken, and many of the longer ones are hard to pronounce or to type. So,when you go looking for a domain name, remember that it’s hard to find a good domain-but not impossible.Have a list of at least 10 possible domains that would be acceptable and search the availability and pick according to that.

Choosing a domain name is really a tough ask, since whatever you think of is already in use, so you have to be very innovative in it.

  • I was confuse what domain name should I use.

I want a domain name that is cheap and easy to remember. What Do you think about my name? felixalbutra[dot]com?

Felixaburta [dot] com? Is it your real name?
Is it the blog about yourself?

Choosing felixaburta is no problem for me, since it’s related to your blog topic. If the topic is about your life, then the domain is already fit. But if it’s purposed for business/another topic, i recommend you to search for another one.

What i mean by another one is, not just domain which contain the topic keyword itself, because actually you can make your own brand. Some own brand is success just like Facebook, friendster, google, yahoo, etc…But the most important things is, as already stated, please be simple and can easily remembered and spelled by people.

I think you can make your real name as your domain name and if you can make it succesful then you can make your name as your own brand. Look at John Chow, his name is his domain name.

But you can also added a little twist like felixtheman as opposed to felixthecat.

My suggestion for domain name is to get your keywords and interchange it until you get a domain thats available.

Or you can always check online, there are sites where it gives suggestions to available domains based on your keywords.
