Designers Beware Of Bad Clients

There are always some bad ones among the good ones. And this is very true in case of clients too and especially for designers. It is really very hard to predict the nature of a client for web designers. We can still Avoid those bad situations if we learn some of the warning signs of a bad client.

Next time when you get a potential client, instead of getting carried away it is very much necessary for you to think twice. Take your time to measure in every way keeping in mind the following warning signs.

Clients who lack in even the basic computer skills: Just as too much or too less of everything is dangerous, same with client’s knowledge also. Client’s with too much of computer or web knowledge or too less often becomes problematic and frustrating. So, you should be cautious to avoid such clients.

Clients who says that their last designer was inefficient: In many cases you might come across such comments from the clients that their last designer could not deliver exactly what they wanted. Although, in some cases it might be true but in many other cases can be just to please you. In such situations an intelligent move would be to ask for some of the rejected work for you to see.

Clients having very less experience in web designing: With these types of clients you might come across questions on your every decision. It becomes very hard to make them understand about the flow of the project and why it will take a long time or questions regarding cost also.

Clients who want to give a percentage or share of their business as your payment: Simply avoid such client that is all I can say. You should get paid for your work and making a website successful is not the job of a designer.

Clients who insist you to provide 3-4 design samples before confirming: Beware of such clients as you might end up with a series of mockups and no final selection. Such type of clients actually loves to have the full control and finally extend a one month project to five months.

Clients who bring flowchart: Clients coming up with their business flowcharts about how it works are considered to be highly organized and makes your understanding easier. But there are clients who come up with even pre-planned designs and flowchart of the total website often proves to be of great problem. Do not take up such projects where you as a web designer feel like being controlled by client.

Clients who have a big IT department but no marketing or sales department: Companies or clients with a big It department with lot of IT workers and no marketing department is surely to face conflicts. So it is better to avoid such companies or clients.

Clients who think you are in competition with Network Solutions or ISPs: Such clients are not going to give proper value of your work. This type of clients has a tendency to use you and hardly values business relationships.

Clients lacking in previous experience of promotions: Clients who does not have any previous experience of working with creative parts or have no knowledge about promotional contents becomes frustrating to deal with.

Involvement of previous assignment designer as a decision maker of present design: This is not at all a good situation when a previous designer or member of other assignments plays the role of a decision maker in your new project. You’ll hardly get a chance to prove your abilities in this case as pride and ego is going to mess it up all.
