7 Wordpress Plugins to Optimize SEO for Beginner WordPress Blogs

August 12th, 2009 by Lax

SEO is one of the most-told and least-understood terms these days in the world of blogging. Search engines are tried & tested sources of heavy traffic. But as a beginner its far more tougher to get started with this. Here is a bunch of plugins that will help you find better search ranks and of course grow up as a blogger.

1. All in One SEO Pack

This is the most useful & used plugin for bloggers. Assigning proper title tags, meta tags, keywords & description for the weblog entries is a must to attain higher ranks in the search engines. Those are the most basic steps for search engine optimization. This plugin helps you to edit all those tags very easily for every single post & without having any coding knowledge.

2. Redirection

In many cases some URLs need to be redirected to a new one. The cases may be shifting blogs, changing the Permalink structure or simply the 404 error pages. This plugin by John Godley is a gem in doing this redirection stuff with just a few clicks. It manages 301 redirections, keeps a log of the 404 errors. There are also some pretty pro features that includes “pass-through” redirections, redirections based on login status, redirect to random pages, redirects depending on referrers. The redirects can also be done in different languages. It also keeps a log of all these redirects.

3. Robots Meta

There is no one more dull than the search bots. They seem to be intelligent enough to crawl (all) your pages but dull enough not to judge which one is unnecessary. And end of the day, you have to pay for their inability. It would be more foolish those cursing bots and not taking any action on your own. This can be fixed by robots.txt. This plugin by Joost de Valk will help you out of this by creating one such robots.txt for you which will tell the bots which pages are not to bee indexed.

4. SEO Smart Links

Inter-linking is an important perspective that makes search engines decide how well your site is structured. The more your pages are interlinked the more important they are to this search engines. So you have to link your earlier posts from your newer ones and vice versa. That can be done manually if you have a few posts in hand to link to. But once your inventory grows it is unmanageable & painstaking to link them manually.

Vladimir Prelovac wrote this plugin to help you out of this misery of deep-linking your posts manually. So start this plugin from the very first day to develop a good inter-linking structure for our blog. Define the words with the links & they will get linked once you are writing a new weblog entry with those keywords included.

5. SEO Friendly Images

If you are one of those million bloggers who use images in their posts then this plugin by Vladimir Prelovac(again) will help you to use those images properly to get them properly indexed in the search engines. The images are nothing but just some (alt)texts to those search engine bots. This plugins will assign proper alt tags to the images even if you forget to Do so.

6. nofollow Case by Case

If you are this far in blogging then you must have heard of the PR thing(a rating out of 10 to signify your Importance to Google). Well whenever your pages link other blogs you are casting a vote in their favor which makes them a bit more important to Google. And in return they may also return you with the same link love. This makes you gain more PR value. But this vote is cast only if those links are “nofollow” ones(you don’t need to understand what that is right now).

The most common backlink that you provide others is the comments on your page. The person(commenter) wrote those words keeping two things in mind. Your post deserves to be commented & they will also get a backlink. But the Comment links are nofollow-ed by default. So they are invaluable. This plugin by Oliver Bockelmann will remove those nofollow tags from the comments which will attract your readers to post comments on your posts.

7. SEO Slugs

what are stop words ?? suppose you are creating a post named Plugins to get higher Search Ranks. They URL created will be “http://www.your-blog.com/plugins-to-get-higher-search-ranks” in which the words to, get are stop words necessarily ignored by the search engines. So a much better URL for search engine should be free of those stop words. This plugin by Andrei Mikrukov will remove those stop words and create a more meaningful URL like “http://www.your-blog.com/plugins-higher-search-ranks”.

Hope you found it useful. Which one you’re using? Share with us! Happy Blogging!!
