7 Things to Avoid while Posting a Blog Comment
Let me start this article with some questions. Here we go :
- How often Do you Post a Blog Comment ?
- Do you Post the comment after reading the article ?
- Do you beg for links or finish your comment with a Signature ?
- Do you argue with your fellow commentators ?
The first question is the Most difficult to answer. Most of the Online users are lazy and hence they rarely post comment on others blogs. But in those rare occasions when they post a comment they commit some really stupid mistakes. Here are some of the things that you should not do while posting a Blog comment
1. Never Sign your blog comments: Most Blogs are configured by default to show your name and URL in the comment form.As soon as you Post your comment your name is hyperlinked with your URL.So you need not use another signature just below your comments. It appears spammy and can annoy fellow readers.
2. Do not include Links to your Posts on Every comment you make: Comment forms allow you to use a Link. Usually Commentators use their blog’s home page link in the website URL field. If you add unnecessary links to your articles and posts in the comments body it can again appear spammy and hurt your Reputation. However you can link to posts if it appears relevant to the discussion but linking to your posts in each and every comment you make is yet again a bad practice.
3. Do not leave a Comment asking for Link backs or Link exchanges: This one is begging and nothing else. Don’t go shooting each and every comment asking for Link exchanges or blogroll links. It hurts your reputation immensely. If you want to do a link exchange then why not contact the Blogger via the contact form or write a humble email ?
4. Do not Leave a comment without reading the Article: If you are Posting a comment just because you have to , hold it right there. It’s of No use. Read and understand the article first. Get involved with the discussion and only after you have understood what’s going on , post your comment.
5. Do not post One word or “Great Post “ Comments: if you want to thank the blogger for the post why not write in some details ? Why the One word comments ? One word comments again shows that you do not have much interest in the post and you are just doing it because you have to. So never post one word comments. Write a complete sentence and pour in some details.
6. Discuss but Don’t Argue: If you do not agree with a Point made by the blogger or a fellow commentator then express your views in such a way that it doesn’t appear like you are arguing. Present your opinion but never disregard anyone else’s point of view.So Avoid using sentences like “ This is rubbish “ or “You don’t know anything”. May be you are correct but everyone will disregard you because of your comment tone.Hence avoid personal attacks.
7. Never try to Highlight your comment using excessive emotions,Bold or italic characters: If you want to Grab some attention via comments then post something worth reading. Do not try to gather attention by Bolding texts or using emotions all over your comment body. They make the comment difficult to read and most readers will just skip it altogether.
Take the pain to comment in this article , Will you ?
Hope you found it useful! Happy Blogging!!

Reading through your points I think I pass all of them, with reservation for number 6. For some reason I sometimes have a tendency to not always agree with the author. Therefore I always read through my Comment one or two times to make sure I don’t write something I might regret later on.
Shouldn’t argue is the main point in that point
Reading comments once or twice before hitting submit is a good habit.
I am glad you posted this. This will make commentators better.
I Do not like people who just Comment good post etc.It is good to hear once or twice but not always.
You know i simply started deleting the comments like “Great post” “Superb” and “Great post”. Really we don’t need them in comments section..we should have a heartful discussion.
Number four is the one that everyone should read. People should not be leaving comments without reading articles first. I have seen too many comments that did not make sense at all, they did not pertain to the article. Lots of people have decided to visit so many blogs a day and leave comments, it would help if they read the article before leaving a Comment.
WE should delete all those comments..then either he won’t come back or he won’t write those type of comments. Howz it?
Yes, should follow the above to become a good commenter
Every one should take a oath to become a good commenter
I Do agrre to your all points especially no. 5. On mine blog too, some people only do post such words or some even Comment out of topic after reading just titles. Their comments let me know that they haven’t read the post.
Yes that’s true. We should avoid them there itself. So that they will realize the things.
Well said! Very good advice for people who Comment. Sometimes sharing a post URL in a comment can appear rude as if to re-direct visitors to better content so it is best as you said to stick w/ the main website link availble to use in the comment form. One point you made that I really hadn’t considered but fully agree with, is number five. Though it is nice to know that the general perception of a post was good, it really doesn’t give the author any insight as to what, which can be frustrating. I think that many might not even consider (as I had not) any negative or undesirableaffects from leaving a short comment, especially since it is a short comment.
There are some people, who want to say just good or superb. That’s coming from their heart, but these bad dogs using that method to drive some traffic.
Can’t believe that, we are situation like, can’t say which is real and which is fake

You’re welcome. BTW the last sentence in my original Comment was supposed to read: I think that many might not even consider (as I had not) any negative or undesirable affects from leaving a short comment, especially since it is a *positive* short comment.
But I see you wre referring to those just commenting entirely for self-promotion purposes. And yes, basically that’s just totally not cool to Do.
Anywho, been steady reading several articles on your blog, which as I am sure you know is a rare thing these days with the way web browsing tendencies are to just skim and go. Your articles are really helpful & you come across as a real professional. Glad to have found your site & I hope you have lots of success with it.
Short comments once or twice or trice is Ok. We can understood their feeling.
But if you receive the same from same person many times. Then
Thanks for sharing your thoughts dude…
Lax, i wish to express my comments in two three words, its too boring to write two three sentence.
An excellent reminder what a good practice commenting really is.
Commenting is a form of conversation that requires skill and good manners.
Great Great sentence you made here..Now formula is, you comments and then i Comment.
This is trend now….but hope it will end up soon.
#4 is the most important issue…many people Do Comment with just a Awesome post comment which is a headache for bloggers
Yes good word “Headache”…i think twice before deleting that type of comments
7 Things to Avoid while Posting a Blog Comment, thanks for this great post
Thanks for your comments dude… But i think this comments comes under # 5.
Just kidding dude
That’s what I call “The 7 Rules Of Blog Commenting” – this article should be plastered all over the blogosphere… you nailed it pretty well
Great, thanks for the comments dude..

I leave numerous comments and Do my best not to have links. I sometimes disagree with the author, but it depends on the topic at hand.
I have started to delete short comments on my site and some of the commentators have contacted me and I have had to tell them why.
Even i thought of deleting all the comments which i have accepted all those comments previously.
Great post about commenting on blogs/websites
Thanks for your first comments here dude..
I don’t even know how to post a link in the Comment itself, but that is good advice.
These were all good reminders-especially the one about leaving too short or nonspecific comments. I fear I have been guilty of this before.
You can post links using simple html tag..but better not to know all those
Thanks for sharing your thoughts here dude..
I think I’m doing the right things always. But I think sometimes argument or critics are good to a growing blog. We need to listen comments from different point of views.
Yes that’s true..As a author you should answer to every one who criticise you.
Then only your followers will believe you
While these are all valid and good points, I think the don’t argue is very important. Personal attacks can make one look less than intelligent, and no one likes a troll .
Yes thats true..very good point you shared dude. Thanks a lot for your first Comment on TZI
Great point about reading the article first them commenting, not too many people Do that these days it seems.
And as for the links in the Comment.. whenever that happens I usually edit them out.
I Do the same thing, if someone gives links or signatures with the links, i usually edit them before approving.
Oh.. fortunately I (hope) always follow that steps
Nice tips buddy!
Nice that you found it useful. Thanks for your first comments dude..
Thanks for putting this list together, very informative! Really enjoyed reading it. I must confess, I am guilty of number 5
Here’s hoping this will suffice
Again, thanks for putting this together!
Sometimes I leave a word of thanks as a Comment just to express gratitude for the content of the post. When one isn’t an authority on a particular subject, there’s only so much one can write as a comment other than to say thanks for the opportunity to learn from the blog post…
So here I am trying very hard to fill this comment space
Number 4 is spot on. I’ve seen dozens of comments from people who’ve read half an article and just want some meaningless platitude so they can stick a link up.
I’ll be printing this off and keeping it next to my keyboard!
Wow great to have it on side of your keyboard. Thanks for your first comments here dude..
I find there is 2 reason why there is a people just commenting without even read the article :
- Their just want to get link, as stated by you
- Their are participant on commenting contest who want to get 1st position quickly (i hope there is no participant like this on techzoomin Comment contest, but i believe that all participant here is great people).
And that 2 reason oftenly bring the author to find the comment which called as “SPAM”
This is actually very good because as I am a beginner in this field i understood these 7 main things which must be avoided for better commenting and also help to improve my blog ranking.
Great that you found it useful. Thanks for your comments dude..
Totally agree with you! People often tend to be arrogant with the blogger if he commits even a small mistake. This is a strict no no.
You can point out the mistake in a humble way too.
Good point you made dude.. Thanks for the useful point here..
Totally agree with you .
never Leave a Comment without reading the Article..
this is a good point i think enjoying while commenting on other blog is important don’t just leave comment for pointing link to your blog.
Most new bloggers today often post a 1-2 words Comment which is look like a spammy words.
Some of them are asking link exchange like what you said. What are the their purpose of commenting a blog?
Most of the time I experience this in my own blog.
Sometimes, I also made a mistakes on sharing my comments and I want to ask my apology about what I did.
What I learned from commenting other blog was, I was able to fill action in my laziness in reading other post. Now as I join this commenting contest, it gives me many benefits like, notification, traffic, learn from what I read, engaging with others.
I thank you for having this opportunity.
I’m active blog commentator, and i’m also love to participate on blog Comment contest. This article help me to be better on commenting and try to win a contest without make non-usefull comment. Thanks…!!
Your post tells me a lot about commenting. I just started to Comment on other blogs these days and the result is quite good to me. My blog get some comments back. Besides, I feel like I join a community of commenters that makes me not live on an island any more.
