6 Best Ways to Improve the Search Engine Crawling on your Site
Sometimes we see that even after writing for a long duration of time we don’t get the ranking of the pages of our site in search engines. This is very disappointing and we even lose interest in writing because of that. This mainly occurs because of the poor crawling rate on the website by the search engines. There are various ways by which we can improve the search engine crawling rate of any website. Here, I list you 6 most effective ways to improve the crawling rate on your site.
#1 Be Consistent in Publishing Articles
By consistent I mean, you need to keep publishing articles after certain period of time. It may be every day, every alternate days or may be twice a week. But don’t give too long gaps between posting your articles. Google usually crawl your site based on the regularity and order of your updates. When you post on a regular basis, Google too crawl your site on a regular basis thereby improving the crawling rate.
#2 Keep the Navigation Simple
It’s very important that you keep the navigation on your site simple. It’s true that when you make a fancy looking navigation bar, it looks very stylish and can draw visitors at times. But they are not that helpful for search engine bots to crawl. So, the search engine crawling reduces due to that. You can make your navigation bar attractive by coding the CSS and allow for easy crawling at the same time.
#3 Keep the URL Simple and Related to your Post
When you keep URL of any page totally different from what you write in that page, you make the task of the crawlers difficult. Keep your URL simple and related to the article. The best way is to give the title of your post at the end of the URL with a ‘-‘in between each word. You can have the date of posting before that. That is the convention used in most of the professional blog.
#4 Maintain a Correct Sitemap
Sitemap plays a very important role in making your website more accessible to all the search engine crawlers. Maintain the sitemap correctly in your site with proper priority assigned to each component of your blog. We may even need to edit the plugins that we use to create the sitemap of our blog automatically. This ensures that your sitemap is working perfectly and allowing the search bots to Do their work without any problem.
#5 Make Proper use of Anchor text while Creating Internal Links
It’s true that when we make internal links to different post of our blog, we make more and more posts of our blog accessible to our readers. But at the same time, we should make use of proper anchor text while linking the internal pages. Links to pages especially with Images can lead to poor crawling rate on your site.
#6 Keep your Homepage Perfect
As we all know that we are mainly known and recognized from our homepage, we need to keep it perfect. You should add more links to the inner pages from it, so that they share the authority. Keep your homepage well organized and maintained. Don’t make it too cluttered with content.
Although search engine bots decide when and how long to crawl a site, still we can increase and improve their crawling rate by following the above mentioned ways and help our site to get indexed in search engines soon.
I would love to know how many of you implement the above methods. Share with us! Happy Blogging!!
