Favicon for your Site

A favicon (short for “favorites icon“) is an icon associated with a website or webpage that is intended to be used when you bookmark the page, browsers also use them, typically in the URL bar.

Creating Favicon: If you are a Photoshop king, then I don’t need to say anything here just create a 16*16 image to use as favicon. (Short word/image like TZI for TechZoomIn) and save that image as “favicon.ico”.

If you don’t know or don’t want to use Photoshop, follow me I will show a simple method to create your favicon image. Just open www.cooltext.com and select some image style, font style, colors and Click on Render Logo. It will automatically prepare your Images with given styles so just download that image to your desktop.

After downloading image, just open www.favicongenerator.com and browse your image from desktop and click Generate Favicon! Button. It will give you an image of 16*16 pixels. Download the image and place it on desktop. Don’t forget to name it as favicon.ico.

Congratulations, you have your very own favicon! To get it installed on your WordPress site, just skip down to “Installing a Favicon in WordPress”.

Why am I asked to enter this code?

Why am I asked to enter this code? You must have asked this question yourself some time or the other. The code is to just confirm that you are human and not any automated program or spam. Yes, this code will keep spammers away from submitting your web form; it will protect your forum, blog, guest book, etc…

Technically this concept is called captcha (A CAPTCHA is a type of challenge-response test used in computing to ensure that the response is not generated by a computer). Ok this is all we can imagine by seeing that code image or questions like 2+2=? OR is fire Hot or Cold? :)

The reason behind why I took this topic is: We all will agree to fight against spam and we cooperate for that. But here people are taking this too serious and keeping multiple code Images to enter before submitting or registering. Today one of my friends tried to register to Twitter.com and failed 7 times to satisfy that CAPTCHA code. He called me and asked hey Lax is this twitter working or down. We can’t blame him because after seeing that screenshot sent by him even you will feel the same.

Initially sites used to place single word to enter, but recently they advanced it to 2 words like as twitter asking. See the image above asked by Twitter. Hope this won’t advance more in future. :)

Google Calls for Ideas to Change the World with Project 10^100

On the eve of Google’s Birthday, Google decided to Do some thing for public and came with an initiation called Project 10^100 (pronounced Project 10 to the 100th), a call for ideas to change the world by helping as many people as possible.

Few words from Google on this event:

We’ve learned over the last ten years at Google that great ideas can come from anywhere. For that reason, Google is announcing as part of its tenth birthday celebration Project 10^100 (pronounced Project 10 to the 100th), a call for ideas to change the world by helping as many people as possible.

For this challenge we are asking our users to send us exciting ideas for ways to improve people’s lives and have committed $10 million to turn up to five of the best ideas into reality. These ideas can be big or small, technology-driven or brilliantly simple – but they need to have impact. We will identify the 100 best ideas and then ask our users to vote on which ideas we should fund. Their votes select the 20 finalists, and then a panel of judges will choose up to five ideas for final funding.

We want to extend to the world the idea that great ideas come from all angles. Google Chrome emerged when engineers realized they needed an entirely new browser to sufficiently engage with rich web applications. Google News began when on 9/11 an engineer became frustrated that he couldn’t aggregate news sources from around the world in one place.

We know there are countless brilliant ideas that need funding and support to come to fruition. What are some examples of ideas we think are cool? A team of just two people are implementing a solution to help the millions of people who laboriously carry on their heads 5-gallon buckets of water for long distances by designing and distributing The Hippo Water Roller (www.hipporoller.org), a relatively inexpensive 24-gallon container that can be easily wheeled on the ground. First Mile Solutions (www.firstmilesolutions.com) is implementing simple but effective ideas for connecting isolated communities in developing countries to the Internet. One plan has communities tacking on Wi-Fi devices to public buses so they can detect and send stored emails and messages as the buses travel through unconnected areas. Google is excited to fund projects that similarly have a big impact.

Google is turning ten years old. What better way to celebrate than by empowering people to help others? May those who help the most win!

How often should I blog?

There is no standard answer for this question. But it’s all depends on the author, his/her profession and their commitment towards blogging. By profession I am software engineer, but am adjusting my time to write 1 or 2 articles everyday. You will find rare situations where I couldn’t update my TZI.

Don’t take me in wrong way, am not saying everyone should Do this. But that’s my interest and passion towards blogging. After maintaining couple of blogs in Blogspot, I took this blogging as serious and launched this venture. Ofcourse working hard to reach next level.

If you are serious about blogging and want to make this as profession in future, you should adjust your time to entertain your visitors. Then only you can live on blogging. Daily one article is enough to intimate your reader that you are very serious about blogging and promising to entertain more in future. Here I will share some tips on how to take blogging seriously.

  1. Start blogging on free sources like Blogspot and WordPress
  2. Try to write content on own
  3. Take help from other blogs and link back them
  4. Comment on fellow blogs
  5. Make friendship with blog owners
  6. Habituate to comment, link share and chat with other Bloggers on web
  7. Place ads on your blog from Adsense or others
  8. Monetize your blog
  9. Ask your online friends to open your site daily
  10. Get good traffic and money from your blog

Once you receive your first cheque, automatically you will get confidence to take blogging seriously and as profession also. At the same time you will have money in your pocket to buy Domain and HostingJ.

I personally feel we shouldn’t spend our own money to start blogs. That’s the reason am recommending to start with free sources like Blogspot, earn money and spent to start Building real blogging platform.

Happy Birthday Google!

This month is the Google’s 10th birthday. Surprised to listen Google will celebrate on the month of September; yes they won’t celebrate on a fixed date. Even I surprised to see on blogs and news sites that varied dates they are posting about Google 10th birthday.

Few words from Google:

Google opened its doors in September 1998. The exact date when we celebrate our birthday has moved around over the years, depending on when people feel like having cake. For more on Google’s history:

Want to know Some fun facts about Google?

Meaning of ‘Google’:

The name ‘Google’ is a play on the word ‘googol,’ coined by Milton Sirotta, nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner. A ‘googol’ refers to the number represented by the number one followed by 100 zeros. It’s a very large number. In fact, there isn’t a googol of anything in the universe — not stars, not dust particles, not atoms. Google’s use of the term reflects our mission to organize the world’s immense (seemingly infinite) amount of information and make it universally accessible and useful.

Google logo changes:

From time to time we modify the Google logo in honor of holidays celebrated by our users around the world. These special logos – we call them doodles — usually run for 24 hours. You can find an archive of our more popular logo variations at http://www.google.com/holidaylogos.html.

Copyright Issues

The hot topic on web always will be Copyright. What is this copyright? And why people won’t allow you to copy their content. This is my target topic today which inspired me to write this article.

Being online from last 2 years, I saw almost all the blogs and sites will include a copyright link mentioning not to copy their content without permission. Are they really taking the rights on that content or just warning the visitors by keeping a simple menu called Copyright. These are all unanswered questions.

But here, is that really necessary to take copyrights or warn users not to copy. I would say it’s not necessary as far as it’s a book or something important you are inventing into web through your blog.

Anyway here am not covering all about copyrights like how to take rights? What to Do if anyone violates them? If you are really interested to know them visit labnol.org where Amit covered all those faqs.

But the conclusion from my side is until you are doing something extra which is not reproducible by others, you don’t need to take rights and warn visitors not to copy that. I don’t mind if my visitors copy content from TZI. Because from this I will get link back and intern traffic from that.

But the people who are copying content need to remember that copying content won’t help you anymore. Ofcourse you can take some content or idea from that article or anything limited.

Wrong Exchange Rate in Adsense

Yesterday I saw my Adsense payment history and surprised to see exchange rate was 1:1 i.e Dollar ($) to Indian Rupee (INR). I thought of shooting a mail to Adsense team reporting this issue. But today morning I received a mail from Google saying apologize for the wrong exchange rate. I believe many webmasters observed the same problem for their recent payment history. But here no need to worry, that is a mistake showing in your Adsense account and you will receive your payments with current and correct exchange rates.

Here is the mail I received from Google:

So don’t worry on this.Happy Blogging!

9 Simple tips to Promote blog yourself

I am sharing some of the tips I observed in Promoting Blog yourselves. Here you don’t need to ask some one to view your blog or no need to request anyone for anything. You just need to observe and use the resources around you.

Here are some of the sources I observed:

1. Include blog URL in signatures: This is a powerful media to drive the traffic again and again. Naturally you will send tons of mail from your inbox to friends, colleague and to many known and unknown people. So if you include URL in signature, it’s natural that people will click on your URL to know what that is. Here you need to attract them to visit again and again. For that you should have an interesting content on your blog. So just include it and receive the traffic.

One more important thing I forgot to say, People will forward your mail to many people in long run so your URL will travel around the web.

2. Place URL in IM’s: Do place your URL in IM’s like Gtalk, Yahoo messenger, MSN, AOL and etc….

3. Place it in Social Networking Profiles: Yes, do mention URL in profiles of social networking site like Orkut, Facebook, Hi5, MySpace and etc…

4. Submit to Search Engines: Don’t forget to submit your blog to search engines like Google, Yahoo, Live, Cuil and etc…

5. Submit to Social Bookmarking Sites: Promote your content on Social Bookmarking Sites like Digg.com, Reddit.com, StumbleUpon.com, Del.icio.us and etc…

6. Share links with other Bloggers: This is really a powerful trick to drive traffic in the initial stages of your blog. Do share links with Blogs under your niche.

You may want to share link with TechZoomIn…

7. Place feed headlines in your other Blogs: If you own multiple blogs, it’s always good to place feed headlines from Feedburner on your blogs. And also place a section called my blogs or my network to let visitors know that you own more that one blog.

8. Comment on fellow blogs: This is my personal experience; Commenting on other blogs will work like anything. You will get lots of traffic starting from the owner of the blog where you commented to his visitors.

9. Join Blog Directories: Now-a-days every Country or City has its own blogging communities maintaining a list of Bloggers from that region or language or etc… By joining in those will drive traffic from your own region or Country.

Did I miss anything? OR Any other you know?
