10 Tips In Getting Links To Your Blog

Apart from Page views and RSS count, Link build is one of the main factors in finding the popularity of a Blog. What is link Building: Getting other blogs to link to your blog. It’s like one of your neighbors recommending a good plumber or handyman; it carries more weight than if a person just stumbled across your home.

Most of the search engines and social sites like Google and Technorati will give you a rank/position depending on your site link backs. That means the more links you get, the more value on blogosphere and search engines. In the last couple of years, links have become increasingly more important to the engines because they see links as an endorsement of your site by other Web sites. Think about it for a minute: Would you link to a site you didn’t like?

Based on the links pointing to your site, the search engines either increase or decrease how relevant your site is for particular keyword searches. Obviously, you want to increase your site’s relevancy, right? Good. That’s the goal here we have 10 tips to guide you through the process.

1.Make sure your blog is worth to link: Make sure you blog is worth to link with some good and linkable content. Means write some solid articles which will encourage other bloggers to share with their readers too. Many bloggers are sharing the good content links they found on websites to their readers. So if you get chance to site there, you will get more traffic and RSS readers along with the link.

2.Determine Good & Suitable blogs under your niche: The second option to get good amount of links is to find and approach the good and suitable blogs to get links back. For example: If you have developed a good WordPress plugin,then approach a wordpress stuff sharing site and explain and ask them to link to your product or article. This way you will get worth for every visitor coming in, rather than asking a tech site to link.

3.Get equipped to evaluate your link partners: How would you find you link partners. Don’t waste much time in finding how good or popular a blog is to ask for links. Just install Google Toolbar, which can help you decide which sites are Quality link partners and which aren’t. The toolbar integrates with your Web browser. It helps you by displaying the “page rank” of each site you visit. Put simply, page rank is a rough indicator of what Google thinks of a site. You can rest assured that if Google thinks it is a good site, it probably is. The higher a page ranks the better. One strategy is to try to link up with sites that have pages ranked as high as or higher than your own.

4.Prepare for contact: Now that you have a list of potential link partners, go through the list and send a custom e-mail or use contact form to each one requesting that you trade links. Do not send a generic e-mail requesting a link; it will not get a response. Your link request should mention what is all about you blog and what they will get by this deal.

5.Patience & Communication play major role: Wait for a month or so before monitoring you requests. It will take some time for the authors to write similar content and find situation in the article to link back you. For example: Extending the same example from point 2,It will take some time for the author to write about wordpress plugins and at that only he will be interested to link to you.

6.Follow up further: Keep in touch with the people whom you contacted. This will indirectly keep remind them about the deal and apart from that you will get some value and good amount visitors too.

7.Set a Goal: Set your own goal about how many links you planned to get in stipulated amount of time and how to get them. Always have a big goal and try to achieve ¾ of that.

8.Set a Schedule: Allot certain amount of time daily/weekly to get contact and build the relationship with fellow bloggers. This way you will get more readers, page ranks and value on web. Keep remember “Relationship keep pushes you up always on web”

9.organize your findings and share: Organize your finding and keep share with all you readers. This will encourage your readers to do the same and it will tell how you followed and succeeded in this concept. This way you will get more results.

10.Track & React: After certain amount of time 2 months or so, Track all your records like after the effort what change you see in your blog visitors, alexa rank, search refers and etc…Then act accordingly to improve more according to your plan.

All over a blog success depends on Link backs, Organic search visitors and page views. Strongly say not on RSS count or Comments count. So what do you say, how many link backs you have? TechZoomIn has 4,509.My page rank is still 0, Hope once Google refreshes its page ranks I will get some number over there. You can see your details in dnScoop-a domain and site value tool.

Happy Blogging & Linking :)

  • Thanks for this great list. Quick question though. I write a blog for a product site. It’s a product that I love and believe in whole heartedly but it isn’t really a regular blog. Are there any other types of things I should Do to build traffic? I will definitely follow your advice in contacting sites that write about WordPress specific stuff because our product is launching for wordpress first. Maybe I’ll even contact you at the right time. :-)

    @Mike,

    Best option if you have budget is to go for paid advertising on small blog which can drive you much traffi.

    One more option is to take some product reviews on blogs which can drive you enough traffic.

    This way initially you can get more links and traffic too..

    Hope this helps :)

  • @Lax thanks!! I will definitely get some product reviews. Not sure if we have $$ for advertising but a google campaign couldn’t hurt especially if i can accurately track the roi on google analytics.

  • Lax says:

    @Mike,

    I don’t think Google campaign will give good results for your product. All the clicks which you get would be from non WordPress users or unknown users.

    I think product reviews will help you to get worth for bucks :)
